Named by Chen Guangyuan and others in 1943, the named section is located in the village of Ganhaizi, about 8 km south of Yipinglang Town, Lufeng County, Yunnan.
Synonym: Yipinglang Coal Measures (See discussion in Shezi Fm)
Lithology and Thickness
The Ganhaizi Formation is the main coal-bearing section of the Yipinglang Coal System. It is mainly composed of gray, dark gray, gray-black and yellow-green siltstone, muddy siltstone with coarse sandstone, mudstone, shale and coal. It is 233~480 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
At the bottom, the yellow-brown massive conglomerate is in pseudo-integrated contact with the dark gray fine sandstone and siltstone at the top of the underlying Pujiacun Fm; or onto the Songgui Fm at Lijiang region
Upper contact
At the top, it is in integrated contact with the yellow gray massive quartz sandstone with large oblique laminations at the bottom of the overlying Shezi Fm.
Regional extent
This group is a coal-bearing stratigraphic formation with intersection of land and sea, which is distributed along the coast of Lvju River and in the area of Lufeng Yipinglang, and is characterized by good coal-bearing properties. The coal-bearing properties are poor and the lithology is coarse to the south of Yipinglang area.
